The Houses Of Parliament - an Introduction

When I got to London, one of the things I wanted to see were the famous Houses of Parliament.

There’s so much history wrapped up in those famous buildings, and I was really keen to see them up close and personal.

Anyway, the day and time came, and we’d spent time wandering through London and we finally got there.

My first initial impression was (believe it or not) that they reminded me of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies!

All very gothic and dark, with cool roof eaves and so forth.

Hard to explain really - I just know the look was awesome. Hopefully my pictures will help convey the experience better than my words.

PS: for those of you who think I’m a dip for saying/thinking this (it’s just a bunch of big old english buildings man, get over it, etc!)… remember, in global terms, I’m just a backwaters boy from nowhereville (Perth, Western Australia).

As a country, we’re less than 300 years old. We didn’t grow as a nation during the Middle Ages, nor the Renaissance, and we’re not really famous for our architecture and old buildings (with the possible exception of the Opera House & the Harbour Bridge.)

So, to me, this place was fabulous, cool, creepy, gothic and mysterious…

In other words, I loved it!

Go see the Houses of Parliament - I’m sure you’ll love them too. I’ll tell you more about them in another post, but this is just a tempter (with a few pictures) to whet your appetite. :-)
